Gender Equality and Forest. Take care of the forest like your child.
Date: Tuesday, 18 March
NY time: 10:30 AM
Length: 90 minutes
Free Green Women focus on a gender equal transformation of economic structures based on the rights of nature, social durability and biological diversity.
By illuminating the connections between people, society and nature, we organize women to be active in society’s change.
Forests are being cut down at an ever-increasing rate all over the world. Profit-making companies buy up forests to cut them down without regard for life either above or below. Women look at the forest differently, see life and what the forest can provide in nutrition and medicine. Women´s knowledge must govern forestry education. The indigenous people´s long experience of life in the forest should be a guiding light in decisions so that today´s patriarchal view is turned into an affirmation of life and biological diversity. The forest then also becomes an important carbon sink that reduces climate emission. Women are generally used to taking care of children and adults, if the forest is to continue to be just a forest, women must make the decisions.
In Platform for Action section K, Women and Environment, you can read that women must participate in decisions relating to administration of natural resources as forestry. We organize women to do just that!
