The Swedish Women’s Lobby organised a parallell event to the CSW66 (Commission on the Status of Women). The seminar focused on questions about sexual exploitation and trafficking in the aftermaths of climate change and natural disasters. Here follows a description of the event: Rapid climate change hit those who are most vulnerable the hardest, leaving them with few or no options in life. Poor women and girls that have lost or left their homes and incomes due to environmental disasters are at great risk for sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Climate crisis is becoming a nexus of modern slavery, but the connections are rarely discussed. Why is that, and what can we do about it? How can the international community uphold women’s human rights during extreme conditions making sure no one is left behind? What policies and programs are most effective in protecting women and girls in disaster areas from prostitution and human trafficking?
